Marmol Beauty · Hamburg, Germany

Lye and Olive Oil

Ari left Chile for Hamburg in 2019 and started making cold-process soap after her first daughter was born. Olive oil, cocoa butter, calendula, and six weeks of curing.

Araceli Cruz, on Marmol

Ari didn't set out to start a soap brand. She was a new mother in Hamburg, in the middle of a pandemic, looking for something that was hers alone. She found it at the kitchen counter, working with lye and olive oil.

Araceli Cruz grew up in Chile and moved to Hamburg in 2019. When her first daughter was born in 2021, what began as a private ritual turned into a practice. Making soap gave her a structure she could return to: measuring, mixing, waiting. The cold process method requires patience by design. Each bar cures for six weeks before it is ready. There is no shortcut.

She named the brand Mármol, the Spanish word for marble, after the swirled patterns that form in each batch. No two bars look the same.

The soaps are made by hand in Hamburg using the cold process technique, one of the oldest methods in the craft. Ari works with natural, vegan ingredients: olive oil, coconut oil, cocoa butter, sweet almond oil, dried calendula, and lavender. Each batch is small. The workshop space at Kokosmädchen in Eimsbüttel doubles as her studio.

She also runs soap-making workshops there, groups of no more than six, where participants work through the full process from raw oils to solid bar. Ninety minutes, no rushing. The soaps go home six weeks later.

Mármol is a one-woman operation run under Germany's small business regulation. Ari sells at Hamburg markets like Elbrausch Design Markt and Besonders Markt, and through concept stores including Design Zentrum Hamburg. The soaps are small-batch by nature, not by marketing decision. This is the kind of maker who names her bars Acceptance, Clarity, and Transformation, and means it.
