We first met ROYA and their founders, Kim and Mo, years ago at the very beginning of ledge. ROYA was one of the first brands we partnered with. In our early conversations, they told us how their paths from the Netherlands and Egypt crossed in Germany – and how a first shared trip to Egypt became the seed for what would later grow into ROYA, which means “dream” in Arabic.

What stayed with me wasn’t just the romantic love story, but how clearly they see ROYA as a bridge. On one side, there’s the awe they still feel for Egypt’s craft, landscape and culture; on the other, there are homes here in Europe and beyond that can be warmed by those same pieces. ROYA works directly with Egyptian artisans who handcraft alabaster candleholders, pottery, textiles and baskets using techniques passed down through generations, with the aim of preserving traditional skills while creating fair, sustainable livelihoods.

The result is a collection that doesn’t just decorate a room, but quietly brings a bit of Egypt’s light, texture and history into it – from a single glowing alabaster piece on a shelf to a handwoven blanket across a sofa.
